My Students
You know you've got a fun classroom when you and your students sing part of the Mickey Mouse March as your attention-getting signal! My classroom focuses on instilling a love for learning as well as an understanding of the magic of imagination.
My 25 little Imagineers love our Disney themed classroom and often refer to it as Disneyland.
I teach a group of fun loving, creative, and caring students who exhibit perseverance on a daily basis. Our school has an open-space concept, meaning that while we do have separate classrooms, they are all joined by a hallway at the back and we have no classroom doors (it's a hard one to explain!). Learning in open-space allows the students to develop a stronger sense of community because other students, teachers, and the principal are always within reach. My class loves to share things from home with each other, donate odds and ends to our class store, share their ideas about their learning, and just be together. Their hearts and minds amaze me daily.
My Project
Imagine a classroom full of students all trying to record their ideas on their computers at once. Are they engaged? Absolutely. Is it loud? Oh yeah. Are their recordings going to be the best possible quality? Unfortunately, no. Is there something we can do about this? 100% YES!
Providing my students with noise-reducing headphones that have microphones attached will allow my students to not only focus more easily on their work but also give them the ability to do on-the-spot recording of their ideas and work.
The attached microphone will increase the quality of the recordings my students create as well as provide my students with a sense of privacy while recording. These headphones offer positive engagement without distracting others because students will not need to raise their voices to record over their classmates.
While my students enjoy working collaboratively on their assignments throughout the day, they also thrive on the opportunity to share their work with their parents through applications like SeeSaw, Flipgrid, and Screencastify. In addition to sharing and explaining their work, students can practice reading fluency independently by using the attached microphone to record themselves reading and immediately play back for self-monitoring and feedback, making them an active participant in their own progress.
In addition to the many uses of headphones in the classroom, especially headphones with microphones attached, these particular headphones have proven to be extremely durable in the classroom. My students use their headphones daily, multiple times throughout the day and need something that can make it through the year with them!
