This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Scientists, mathematicians, authors, artists, engineers, editors. Every day my students come into the classroom knowing they will have an opportunity to explore and develop another part of themselves. Many of them come from homes where their options and resources are very limited and the expectations are low. But when they come to school they have a chance to change that. I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
With the proper environment, tools, and materials, the sky is the limit!
I strive to be able to provide my students with these things that they may feed their desire to learn, grow, and be the best they can be and more.
My Project
These requested headphones and stereo jackboxes will create opportunities for students to engage in meaningful independent assignments in both reading and math. My second graders are often easily distracted by the various activities and movement that goes on around them inside and outside the classroom.
The headphones will help to focus their attention on the assignments at hand while still allowing them to be engaged with their peers and to hold each other accountable.
Students will use the listening centers to hear and follow along with fluent reading to help build their own good reading habits. They will be able to participate in interactive technology math stations without the sounds disrupting other groups.
