This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Cool! I like this! Can I read it again?" These are the kinds of expressions that I would love to hear from my students when they are reading a book. This is why I am requesting these Tag systems and readers.

Donor, my class is comprised of 12 special education (bilingual) students in the third and fourth grade.

We are in a high-need community school. My students are on various reading levels ranging from level A (Kindergarten) to O (ending 3rd grade). This proposal is meant to help me reach those who lack motivation to improve their reading and those that are not near their expected reading levels (M = 3rd grade, P = 4th grade).

My Project

These Leap Frog Tag books feature characters that the children know and love, such as Olivia and SpongeBob Squarepants. The Tag system itself helps them read the words they do not know, so they are less likely to get frustrated, but are more likely to keep clicking on the word until they learn it. If this project were to get funded, I would like to use these books as a center and have the students read with "buddies" so they could work on building their literacy skills together. When students build their confidence with books they know, they are more likely to venture out and read other books. This is what I am hoping for with these Tag materials.
