Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 4th grade students are the most amazing young people. We are a class of diverse learners coming from a community of low-income, high poverty, and homelessness. Many have only been in the country for a few years, and several are refugees speaking limited English. Despite the challenges they face everyday we have co-created a classroom that is a sanctuary for eager minds.

My students bring a rich tapestry of heritage, and personal experience.

For many of my students their basic needs are met through school: breakfast, free/reduced lunch, access to books and technology, social and emotional health, a friendly smile and people who care. Their family's and community do their very best to provide a rich educational experience and promote a bright future for each student. My students have big dreams and bright minds, but are lacking the resources to make those dreams a reality on their own.

My Project

The timer starts now? Will we beat the clock to solve the challenge? Together all of the resources being requested will create to 2 breakout boxes to be used in my classroom for a variety of engaging and collaborative experiences for students.

Escape Rooms are hugely popular right now, so let's bring the engagement into the classroom.

The 2 break out boxes will be used to complete Breakout EDU challenges. In a Breakout challenge students synergize to solve a series of content specific critical thinking puzzles in order to open a locked box. The boxes can be used across all content areas and with all grade levels to make learning an adventure.

Inside the box is a treasure. In order to retrieve the contents inside the box, students have to solve several types of puzzles and open all the locks on the box before time runs out! This is an innovative way for students to learn and discover the leader within.
