My Students

My first graders live in a diverse neighborhood consisting of hard working people and unfortunately, many bad influences. Their parents often work more than one job to make ends meet. Many parents are English language learners themselves and cannot always help the students with their homework. They are lucky to attend a school that may be poor but has an administration with bold ambitions for them.

My students may not have a comfortable place to read at home.

Unfortunately, some live in shelters.

My Project

I am requesting two bean bag chairs for my students. Reading at a hard desk all day is okay but sinking into a comfortable chair to read is a special treat.

Even my reluctant readers will be lined up, asking for a turn in one of these awesome chairs with a favorite book.

I want to create life-long readers and this is one way to help do that. The reading habits we start in first grade stay with the children forever.

Think of the last time you got comfortable with a great book - please help bring that experience to my little ones.
