Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are resilient during these difficult times they are trying their hardest to log on and make it to class. They are giving it their all staying engaged during the lesson even though their home life is not the best and many are currently displaced or in foster care, but even with the several obstacles they deal with on a daily basis they are respectful and care about making themselves into better individuals in order to provide for not only themselves but also their family. Even though many even struggle to have the basic school supplies or technology to connect to class they try their hardest to even log in using their phones to hear the lesson and participate in class discussions.

My Project

The organization of a library is as important as the books in it. These items will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. My classroom library is a place that my students really enjoy reading on their own a book of their interest and most importantly read independently! All of the books will be provided to support their independent reading level but also on theme with what is being taught in the class during whole group and small group instruction. Students will be able to choose books, which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time. In a space that is inviting because it is organized. By having the books individually labeled by genre and an inviting place to sit and read will promote independent reading.

There is a payoff, however.

That student that only likes romance? She’ll know just where to go for her next read! That student that can’t get enough sci-fi? He’ll know where his books live. The importance of organizing and creating an inviting classroom library that will facilitate spotlighting diversity in finding books of their interest and reading level.

Students don't have to spend time searching and getting discouraged because finding one book can take so long, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will allow them to read independently at their own grade level.

They will also be able to choose books that they can relate to. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading. My students already have shown an astonishing interest in independent reading, and this project will only help enrich their experiences.
