This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a first grade public school teacher in a low income/high need community, I try to expose my first grade students to all facets of learning in different mediums in order to help them meet their potential and enjoy the learning experience.

I have a group of ambitious and eager public school students who respond very well to visual and interactive lessons.

They love to do hands on activities and projects. They would like to enhance and visual document some of their projects/work with visual representation. However, I only have access to limited technological devices to use for my lessons and their projects.

My Project

I am hoping to get a digital point and shoot camera donated to my classroom. A point and shoot camera would help me present visually engaging lessons such as documenting and showing the students the life cycle/stages of how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly. This type of lesson will help the visual learners in my class to understand the material that is being taught. My students would further benefit from the camera by learning how to use the camera in order to document people and places in our community (social studies project), document various science experiments, and take pictures to compliment their written pieces. Taking photographs and using the pictures in class for projects and lessons can help my students learn to connect ideas and written pieces to a visual image. It can also help them focus on details and help them reinforce their sequencing skills.

With your help, you will make it possible for my students to enhance their educational experiences by stimulating their visual senses and broadening their imaginations by using a point and shoot camera.
