My Project

As an occupational therapist in the NYC public schools, I work with some amazing kids. They work so hard when they come to therapy. We work on developing their skills to participate fully in their school day.

One of the most important life skills the kids work on is self-regulation and managing big feelings, through sensory activities.

We teach them how to pay attention to how their bodies feel during different times of the day, and what to do to ensure they are calm and regulated for learning. A crash mat will provide a soft and safe space for the kids to jump into or hide under, to make them feel calm and secure. The various sensory bottles and tools are a great way for the kids to take breaks when needed and center themselves. We hope to make our own sensory bottles that the kids can use in their classrooms.
