Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project is to create a positive, safe, calming corner in my classroom. Every child encounters a time when they experience overwhelming emotions. Without self-regulation strategies or a safe place to escape, these emotions can spiral. Three students at a time will be able to check-in to the Calming / Reflection Corner where they will set a five minute timer. During these five minutes, the students will be able to use stress balls and fidget spinners, reflect on their emotions with mental health posters, and relax on a bean bag chair. Teaching children how to keep themselves in control in emotionally charged situations will help them enormously throughout their schooling and lives.

The bean bags, mental health posters, and stress balls will help me create a corner in my classroom where all students can process and regulate their emotions in a structured manner.

The goal is for students to return to their classroom routine ready to learn and contribute to a productive, prosocial, and proactive learning environment.
