My Students

This will be my first year teaching Special Education, after 13 years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher. My students are special needs students who need a lot of hands-on materials to gain their interest, as well as to help them learn. They range from being verbal to non-verbal, from readers to non-readers, and from independent to students requiring extra support. No matter their disability, they are all special and unique and I want to help make coming to school special and fun.

My Project

My students need stimulation to help them regulate themselves. They get moments throughout the day when they need something to touch and feel, as well as to move around. The sensory wall that we want to create for them would take simple materials in the classroom, such as pom poms, pencils, fur fabric and felt to put on the wall to let them feel and touch to their hearts' desire.

We want to create a Sensory Wall for them.

The wood panels would be the base for materials such as the sandpaper and bubble wrap being requested. The acrylic mirror would allow them to look at themselves and help them to start recognizing themselves. The liquid floor mats would give them different sensations as they walked around on the floor.
