Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I want to motivate and support my students' social-emotional development by providing cozy reading spaces within the classroom and also provide stress-relieving tools to help keep them calm and focused.

Comfortable floor seats and stress-relieving tools can significantly enhance the well-being and academic performance of students.

Floor seats, such as bean bags or cushioned mats, offer a relaxed, flexible seating option that encourages informal learning environments. These seats promote better posture, reduce physical discomfort, and allow students to shift positions freely, fostering a more comfortable and engaging study experience. By breaking away from the rigidity of traditional desks and chairs, students can immerse themselves in reading or focused activities for longer periods without strain, which can improve concentration and retention of information.

In addition to comfortable seating, incorporating stress-relieving tools like stress balls, fidget toys, or mindfulness exercises can further support students' mental health. These tools help students manage anxiety and stress, which are often barriers to learning. Simple activities such as deep breathing exercises or using fidget tools can refocus the mind and release built-up tension, making it easier for students to tackle academic challenges with a calm, clear mindset. Together, these elements create a supportive environment that not only aids in academic success but also promotes emotional well-being.

Many of my students have faced many adversities and their social-emotional needs have not been met. Despite this, my students possess incredible resilience and strength, continually demonstrating their ability to grow, learn, and overcome challenges with courage and determination, despite their deficiencies. Providing my students with a cozy safe space within my classroom will help relieve some the pressures and stress of their home life and high school workload and experience.
