Help me give my students the safety and well-being when in a school emergency through containers that hold sensory items for students to cope with the stress and anxiety associated with emergencies.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Emergency calming sensory kits are crucial in schools, and having specific items contributes to student learning, well-being, and safety. Reducing anxiety and stress is a key focus when dealing with emergencies like lockdowns, fires, or severe weather events, which can be incredibly stressful for children.
Sensory kits provide a means of self-regulation, helping students cope with fear, anxiety, and sensory overload.
These kits will improve focus and learning through even minor disruptions which can significantly impact a student's ability to concentrate. Sensory tools like fidgets and pop tubes can help students refocus and return to learning more quickly after a distressing event.
