My Project

My classroom is made up of 23 kind and open-hearted kindergarteners. They show up each day excited to interact with their peers and engage in learning. At this age, learning new skills and socializing with others is hard work. Students often require a space where they can take a much needed break to themselves in order to regulate how they are feeling and process their emotions.

I've created a space in my classroom where students know they can go to calm themselves and recenter when needed.

Students can utilize breathing boards to take deep breaths, use sensory materials to relax and reduce feelings of restlessness, and comfort themselves with weighted stuffies or a calming cuddle ball to help ease any stress or anxieties they may be feeling. The tools in our Calming Corner will help students feel safe, comfortable and at ease in the classroom. After using the Calming Corner, students will be ready rejoin the class.

Having these calming area materials available will help support and nurture each child as a whole, giving students the tools needed to calm themselves, feel safe, seen and cared-for.
