My Project

There is something special about the students in my school. These students are independent, protective, and eager. The students I work with daily come from very diverse cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. These students need support and rapport from the individuals who interact with them daily within the school community. Based on the high needs of these students, each school day can be challenging but rewarding.

Through this project, sensory fidget toys and mood flipbooks can allow students the tools necessary to self-regulate and teach students to identify their emotions and cope with them appropriately.

As we create a culture and climate for our students it is important for students to be able to utilize coping strategies to maximize success through implementing calm corners in every classroom. Through this project, each classroom would be set up with a physical location for a calm corner that promotes self-regulation and mindfulness practices within the classroom setting. Self-regulation is an important tool that students need to be successful. With these materials the calm corners would create choice for students to choose tools that they could use to self-regulate and then return back to the classroom setting and be successful.
