A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I have the world's best job of teaching a classroom full of kindergartners! They are super cute, sweet, creative, full of energy, and always ready to share a smile and a hug. They love books, story time, hands-on learning, and learning new things!
I love how curious my students are about the world around them and how much they love kindergarten!
Our school is located in the inner-city where all of our students receive a free breakfast and lunch. Dr. Seuss once wrote, "Kid, you can move mountains! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!" My students have some pretty big mountains to move, but I know they can do it. My students often have to work harder to learn things, but once they get it, they are ready to help one of their friends. My students inspire me every day!
My students deserve the best that I can give them. My goal is to create an amazing learning environment to encourage them to reach their fullest potential!
Thank you for your consideration!
My Project
As a kindergarten teacher, I know how challenging this past year has been for my little students. As we return to in-person learning, some of my students could benefit with support for their mental health and emotional wellbeing. Being around so many other students, wearing masks, and going to school for the first time can be overwhelming for my kindergarten students. To support them, I'd like to create a calming corner in my room for students to go when they need a quiet place to refocus and get away from the busyness of the main part of the classroom.
A Calming Corner will support my kindergarten students' social and emotional wellbeing by allowing them to choose to go there when they need a quiet place for a few minutes.
The Hopscotch carpet will be used in multiple ways. It will do double duty as a fun place for students to sit when they need a calm spot and as an indoor healthy play activity for indoor recess and rainy days.
The cuddle puppy is not only super adorable, it is also weighted to provide a calming sensory experience to calm nerves and ease anxiety. Students can cuddle the puppy or place it across their laps to relax and refocus.
The Magnetic Alphabet Maze has colorful balloons that represent each letter of the alphabet, plus 26 corresponding letter magnets. Students just use the attached magnetic wand to guide each letter into place—mastering letter identification & alphabet order with every match they make!
Also, there is an adorable book called Breathe Like a Bear which helps students calm themselves with breathing exercises and mindful moments.
Lastly, my project includes a large, 5 minute sand timer, so students can monitor their break and return to class refreshed, refocused, and ready to learn.
