Calming Corner Seating and Supplies

Help me give my students a calming corner that will help them learn to regroup after having big emotions while still remaining in the learning environment.

My Project

First graders often come to school with more on their minds than learning. Their thoughts and experiences can sometimes lead to big emotions that require love and connection, but can also require a time to calm and reset before being ready to dig into the learning for the day.

The seating and calming materials requested will give my students a place to settle, feel their emotions, and (with time and direction) learn to handle their feelings in a developmentally appropriate way.

Having a calming corner in the classroom is a way to encourage students to become independent problem solvers without having to leave the learning environment.

My students come from wonderful families who look to school to provide a safe, caring and nurturing place. They also come from war-torn countries, refugee camps, or experience local violence. Their trauma extends into the classroom and the calming corner will be one way I am able to guide and help them through what they need so they can become well rounded, educated, kind individuals. Any donation is so very appreciated by me and future students to come!
