My Project
When emotions get unmanageable, my students need an area in the classroom they can go to where they can gain control of their bodies. Fifth grade is a tough year for anyone, and it would be wonderful if I could provide them with a safe space to calm down.
This calming corner is complete with a comfortable chair, a weighted stuffed animal they can hug, fidgets to manipulate, and visual reminders to breathe deeply.
I needed one last year, so I am preparing this year to be the best one yet where students will look forward to coming in every day to learn.
The chair is inviting and soft; the stuffed animal is great to hug and is 5 pounds, so it will help with anxiety and my students on the spectrum. The squishy balls are great for those who are worried or stressed and release tension in their bodies. And the variety of fidget toys will keep hands busy in anxiety-induced situations and stored in the clear containers. I know my students will love using the calm down corner with your help! Thank you for helping make a difference in these kids' lives.
