My Project

In my first-grade classroom, located in a Title 1 school, many of my students face significant challenges, including trauma and instability. These experiences can make it difficult for them to fully engage in learning. I am requesting donations to create a calming corner—a dedicated space where students can take a break, practice deep breathing, and regain their focus in a safe and secure environment. The specific items I’m asking for, such as a shelf to section off the space from the rest of the room, 2 floor chairs, a nature-themed rug, a weighted teddy bear, deep breathing tools, and fidget toys, will each play a crucial role in supporting my students' emotional well-being. The weighted teddy bear, for instance, will provide calming pressure that can help ease anxiety, while the fidget toys and deep breathing tools will offer tactile and sensory experiences to help students self-regulate.

A calming corner will not only help my students manage their emotions but also improve their ability to focus and participate in class activities.

My goal with this project is to create an environment where students feel safe, valued, and secure. This space will serve as a vital resource for helping my students develop the social-emotional skills they need to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.

What makes my students special is their resilience and their eagerness to learn, despite the obstacles they face. They come to school every day, ready to do their best, even when their circumstances are difficult. By donating to this project, you’ll be helping to provide these incredible children with a supportive space where they can thrive!
