My Project

Our project is a schoolwide project to create a positive, safe, calming corner in our school's counseling office. Every student encounters a time when they experience overwhelming emotions. Without self-regulation or a safe place to escape, these emotions can spiral. One student at a time will be able to check-in to the Calm Down Corner where they can visit throughout the day. During this time, the student will be able to pick something from the basket of stress relief and sensory toys. Teaching students how to keep themselves in control in emotionally charged situations will help them enormously throughout their schooling and lives. When teenagers feel great frustration, anger, sadness or anxiety, they become confused and may be unsure how to control their emotions. This also provides opportunities for diffusing a negative emotion or situation before it escalates.
