Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are the ones who say hello in the halls and sometimes just need a hug. They share their cares as freely as their culture while peppering in humor throughout the day. My students are inquisitive and creative with mixed abilities that run the spectrum from pre-primer reading levels to college ready all in the same class. They gravitate to working in groups, to helping each other. It isn't uncommon for one student to translate for another without asking.

To my students, we are all part of this whole and no one gets left out.

They've acclimated back to in-person learning after a year and a half of remote in a game of catch up. They are relearning socialization, of walking siblings to school before they get to their own, of sitting back in a classroom again. With one foot in childhood and the other in adult, they volley the line.

My Project

These items are geared to help reduce stress and improve focus while encouraging a more interactive experience for all my students. The microphone and speakers provide a better audio source, especially when wearing a mask and projecting my voice all day. We've transitioned from sitting in front of a computer all day to being back in the classroom. The chart paper and colorful markers will help get my students working together again. They can answer, write, and create.

We are coming from a new Covid world where anxiety runs high.

Things like stress balls, fidget toys, and sitting disks helps relieve stress and provides a focal point while sitting at a desk. When paired with the soothing sounds of waves or rain, it can help guide through meditation practices I employ in my classroom. This items will help create calm that changes the entire climate of our environment.
