This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students deal with home stressors that they carry into their school environment. In this post-COVID era, students are also dealing with residual academic and social-emotional setbacks. Home stressors coupled with school stressors are overwhelming for most of my students who need help regulating their emotions. Teaching students when they are dysregulated is moot because their basic needs are not being met.

A calming area for students can be a safe haven.

Having sensory toys, weighted blankets, books, soft textures, etc. will help with regulating sensory overload and become receptive to learning about how to manage those feelings in the future.
