Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
With a cozy and comfortable calming area my students will be able to give their emotions a safe space to process and deescalate when upset. The soft furnishings and soothing materials will allow for them to lay, or curl up and their emotions and be able to get back to learning. In addition, the calming area will and can be used to meditate and practice self love and compassion.
The best calm-down corners feel a little separated from the rest of the classroom, therefore when needed in a session, whether it be a group or individual the student can have that option.
They will also have social emotional materials, (i.e. books/posters, sensory toys) that will help overstimulated kids find a little quiet space, while fidget toys are an ideal way to work off some nervous energy. Small puzzles or simple building toys give kids something concrete to focus on as they process emotions, and creative outlets can be soothing.
