This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am the Psychiatric Social Worker (PSW) at an Elementary School. This school has a high population of students in special education, and/or students struggling with emotion regulation and peer relations. As the only PSW at this school, 3 days a week, my time and resources are limited, therefore, these materials would make a tremendous impact.

The students at this school are always eager to discuss their feelings with someone and are always receptive to learning new calming strategies.

Also, a good handful of students elope from class, and I am called to support them. This school does not have a comfortable area for students other than their classrooms. An inviting, comfortable, calming area with games, books, and sensory activities would be such a gift to them as I know they would appreciate it.
