This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a counselor in a middle school in South Los Angeles. This is a high need school in a high need area. The pandemic has had a severe effect on the mental health of our students. Many of them are not able to social distance and as a result have suffered the loss of loved ones at higher rate than people in other areas. As a counselor, I want to provide my students with a calming area in my office to help them manage their emotions and protect their well-being by using journaling, coloring, scrapbooking and other non verbal ways of expression.
