Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My first-grade students are a diverse group of bubbly children who love to learn. I am their Spanish teacher in our Dual Language classroom. Most students come from English-speaking homes and Spanish is their second language.

Research shows that for children to learn a second language effectively, motivation and a low-affective filter are crucial.

My job as their teacher is to provide them with a fun, stress-free environment, where they can safely try out their new language skills.

A calming area will help my students when they experience big feelings. A little time in a safe, quiet space with items such as a Hideaway Log Chair with Cushion and a sensory tent will enable them to calm down and get ready for more learning. In this area, they will be able to read the books I am asking for, or use the sensory items such as the fidget toys and maze boards located in the different storage boxes to regroup and calm down before returning to learning.
