My Project

A big part of social-emotional learning is learning how to calm down and having a space to go to when we need to de-escalate. My students are learning about feelings-how to identify different emotions, comfortable vs uncomfortable feelings, how to self-regulate and manage their feelings. Having a calming area in the classroom with flexible seating, feelings mirrors, and other supplies that make it welcoming and effective, will reinforce and encourage students to apply the calming strategies taught. With a well-equipped and appealing calming area, students will have a constant and safe haven they can go to when they need to.
