Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have enough space in my room to create two calming areas in the corners of my room. I would put a futon couch in each corner to give students a sense of tranquility and a safe space to take a breather and reassess. I would like to start each class with an SEL warm-up and use the galaxy projector along with mindfulness music for the students to relax, decompress, and feel calm. Both areas will support students with an opportunity to re-direct their emotions. For students that are experiencing anxiety, having chair bands so they can fidget with their feet can release their emotions.

I want my students to have a safe space where they can release daily stressors in healthy ways and have a productive day.

I would like to give my students individual fidget pens, pencils, and erasers they can take to their other classes so they can release any emotions they are feeling throughout the day. Having something to fidget with can produce self-regulating skills. I would also like to add sign holders and insert mindful cards so that students can have daily affirmations.
