My Project

The calming area is a useful strategy to teach self-management. Including it in the classroom helps students process an experience or de-escalate when they are having a difficult time.

The Calming Area will be an area that my students can go to deescalate and find tools such as Bean Bag Chair, cushions, books and sensory items to help them calm their emotions.

As we return to school from the pandemic, students need to learn how to adjust to in-person school. The Calming Area is a structured break to help students self-regulate so they can alleviate their distress and get back to learning. The area will have simple calming, quiet activities that students can use to help them learn to identify and manage their feelings.
