My Project

I want to create an area in the corner of my room called a "Calming Corner." This area will be a place for my students to go if they are feeling strong emotions, such as frustrated, overwhelmed, or upset. Students will use this space to identify their emotions, use stress balls, draw, use breathing techniques, and manage stress. The tools requested, magazine rack, notebooks, pens, rug, pillows, markers, emotional support toys, storage bins, conversation cards, and books, will help students de-escalate and practice self-management skills.

This space will provide my students with a space in which they’ll feel safe recognizing and regulating their emotions in a healthy way.

Students will be able to take a break and stay inside the classroom. They will see this area as an opportunity to learn and reset, rather than a punishment.
