Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have an excellent group of students this year who have had to deal with so much during the pandemic and as such, experience higher levels of anxiety, stress, and other big emotions.

I want to create a calming area in my classroom for students to go to and process their big emotions before returning to the larger classroom setting.

Items such as art supplies, fidget toys and places to store these items in a spot in the room will help them express their emotions in a healthy way. They will be able to draw, create, write, fidget, and display their creations in the classroom and we can come together as a class to share how this method helped them regulate their feelings in a productive manner.

They will be able to use clipboards to transport their work to various areas; colored pencils, crayons, cardstock, stickers, tape pencils, and journals to craft or write their feelings; caddies and supply holders will be used to store their materials and make them easy to find; fidget toys will be used to calm their active hands; tape and clips will be used to display their creations in the classroom and discuss how this method helped them regulate their feelings.

The social-emotional wellbeing of my students is very important and I want to make this space as inviting and accessible as I can for all my students.
