My Project

Our children work hard, and hard is good, but sometimes hard is too hard. Sometimes we just need a minute to breathe deeply, clear our minds, and lift our spirits. I would like to create a calming area in our classroom, a place where a student could take a moment to regulate their emotions and then return to the learning atmosphere.

People who are good self-regulators know how to calm themselves when upset and cheer themselves when feeling down, and this enables them to persist through difficult times, remain flexible and adapt to situations, act in accordance with their values, see the good in others, and put forth their best effort.

Isn’t that what we want for our children and ourselves?

I would like to create a space with a comfortable place to sit where a student could sit quietly perhaps with headphones to listen to soothing music/sounds, read a poem, do a puzzle, add a line to a poem on a magnetic poetry wall, browse the library for a good book to take home.
