My Project

I will create a calming area for teens in my inner city high school. Already my classroom is a common meeting area for students before and after school and during lunch. Now there will be a separate, designated space for students who need to "get away" from the stressors of our urban neighborhood and school itself.

The shelves will face out to the classroom to create much-needed additional storage space for classroom materials while also creating a physical boundary for the space.

Two comfy chairs, complete with pillows, blankets, stuffed animals and ottomans will create a calming space for individual students, but also create a space for sensitive conversations between teacher and student.

Anxiety reducing lighting, sounds and activities will complete the space.
