This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Specialized Student Services (SSS) Counselor. I work with students involved in the foster care system and students experiencing homelessness. Most of my students experience trauma. They need many resources unfortunately, they do not have them. With a calming area, my students will have additional resources that will support their healing.

These items would help my students learn to self-regulate when experiencing different emotions.

The space I currently use does not have flexible seating. Bean bags would allow them to choose alternative seating if they choose to be in a more relaxed state.

I teach in a low-socioeconomic area and want to offer my students many opportunities to learn how to work through their negative emotions. These students are amazing and I want to help them in their educational journey. I believe offering them an environment rich with resources to work out their emotions will provide them with the necessary tools to best self-regulate in a safe space.
