My Project

I am the school social worker at an elementary school in San Pedro, CA. This Calming Area project is to implement calm corners school wide, so that every teacher will have what they need to provide calm and safe spaces in their classrooms for students to address their emotional needs.

Students are experiencing many challenges in this post-pandemic school environment and I want to help set them and their teachers up for success so the kids can regulate their emotions and feel more ready to learn.

These Calming Area kits with sand timers, feelings charts, and fidget toys will go to each teacher so they can designate a space in their classroom for emotional management. The posters will help so students can experience self-guided calm down strategies.
