Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At my school all the students receive free lunch and many of my students are from low-income households. Even with so many challenges they face they come to school happy and eager to learn. My 5th grade students need a calming area in the classroom. Creating this safe place where they can go when they feel their emotions are running high or low. As a result of the pandemic many of my students suffer from anxiety and need a calming area to use when they need a few moments away from the rest of the class.

With all the sensory fidgets, calming posters, bean bags and pillows will give my students a comfortable and safe area in the classroom.

They will have a variety of materials that they can use for a few minutes in order to calm down or de-escalate their emotions.
