Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Self-regulation and managing of emotions is a skill that I teach my students daily. I work with preschoolers and transitional kindergarten students who for the first time are coming to school and learning to work with others. My students are learning that our emotions change throughout the course of the day, they are also learning that it is ok to take the time to de-escalate by finding a space in the classroom to have some “me time”.

The comfy chair will provide a place to sit and practice their de-escalation skills.

The comfy weighted lap pad will provide students a sensory experience that will help calm nerves and reduce anxiety. They are also aware that when they are ready to do so they rejoin the group with a positive state of mind and are ready to continue with their learning activities. Creating an environment that is a safe space where my students can learn to disconnect and then reconnect is a space that will help my students grow.
