My Project

My classroom is an inclusive setting where we implement instruction for students with special needs and their typically developing peers. My students are curious and eager to learn. Instruction is differentiated based on individual needs and students are encouraged to follow their interests in learning. Will you help me in providing a calming area for my students? I would like to create a safe space where my students can retreat to when they feel overwhelmed and overloaded by the sensory input from the immediate environment. We need a carpet, floor cushions, and weighted lap pads. The calming area gives them time and space to calm their sensory systems and regulate their emotions. The comforting objects and soothing materials will promote mindfulness, breathing and reflection.
