My Project

I am seeking resources to help my students communicate in moments of stress and anger. The school day can be taxing and complex for students to navigate, particularly if they have difficulty communicating. As their speech therapist, I want my students know that they have the tools to get their needs met and share how they feel.

It is crucial that students not only learn how to regulate themselves, but feel empowered to communicate honestly and effectively about how they are feeling.

The coping skills stress ball facilitates a return to a state of regulation that students need to be at in order to communicate effectively. The BigMack button offers a simple, accessible way for kids to communicate what they need to have a successful rest of their day. I am also planning to use the lamination sheets to create visuals and communication supports that can be carried by paras, teachers, and students throughout the day to aid in communication.

School asks a lot of our students, and they need to know that it is a safe place to have feelings and share them with others. We have to support them in learning how to calm themselves so that they can self-regulate and be effective communicators. This will help our students be more successful throughout their school day!
