Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am seeking support to create a sensory room for my students and the entire school community. My class serves students with emotional and behavioral disabilities (EBD), many of whom come from low-income families and have experienced trauma. These students often struggle with emotional regulation and need a safe, calming space to help them navigate their day.

Please help me create a safe, fun, and calming space that will benefit my students and the whole school.

We need a light table center, lounger, mats, sand & water tables, stress balls, and kinetic sand. Our students include children with a variety of needs, including ADHD, Autism, and learning disabilities. Some of my students, for example, have rarely attended school due to emotional challenges. I truly believe that a sensory room could help these students—and many others—feel more comfortable and motivated to attend school, eventually supporting their learning journey.

Many of my students also spend part of their day in general education classrooms, which can be overwhelming and overstimulating for them. The sensory room would give them a space to decompress and regulate their emotions, enabling them to return to their studies feeling more focused and calm.

Having a sensory room would provide an essential resource for all my students to take breaks, regain their emotional balance, and experience some joy during their school day. This room would not only serve my class but would be a valuable space for the entire school community, helping all students with emotional regulation and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
