Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I absolutely love working with my students because they bring a unique perspective and incredible spirit to our adaptive PE classes. They are resilient, kind, and always eager to try new things, even when facing sensory and emotional challenges. My students, who have intellectual disabilities and autism, often experience heightened anxiety, sensory overload, and difficulties with emotional regulation. These challenges can create barriers to their learning, engagement, and overall well-being.

To support my students’ mental health, I am requesting yoga mats, calming lamps, aromatherapy, and engaging games.

Yoga mats will provide each student with a designated space to practice mindfulness, gentle movement, and breathing exercises, helping them to reduce anxiety and improve focus. Calming lamps will soften the lighting in our space, creating a more tranquil environment that reduces sensory stress. Aromatherapy will introduce calming scents that promote relaxation, helping students feel more centered and at ease. The engaging games will not only make learning fun but also support the development of social skills, cooperation, and emotional expression in a positive way.

The goal of this project is to create a sensory-friendly, calming environment that prioritizes mental health, allowing my students to connect with their bodies, regulate their emotions, and enjoy learning. These resources will provide a much-needed escape from the overstimulation they often face and will support their overall mental wellness.

What makes my students special is their ability to overcome daily obstacles with perseverance and positivity. They inspire me every day, and with your support, we can help them build healthier minds and bodies in a nurturing, supportive environment.
