My Students

My students come from a wide range of socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. They have a wide mix of cognitive, emotional, and social backgrounds. My students range in age from 3 years to 5 years old. Many of them have experienced lives filled with trauma and Special Needs challenges that I, at 46 years of age, have never been faced with, yet they show up day after day with loving smiles, hugs, and joyful spirits. They are curious about the world around them, and they are eager to learn everything they can. They are global learners who will inspire the world.

It is my honor and pleasure to serve my students by preparing lessons that will engage them, inspire their passion and desire for learning, and develop their drive for lifelong learning.

My students' desire to learn is much stronger than the challenges that face them. It brings me great joy to see my students make progress on a daily basis. Experiences, opportunities, and thoughtful planning help them to build and develop skills that are delayed and improve their cognition. Our student population is 26% Hispanic, 6% Multiracial, .1% Hawaiian / Pacific Islander, 34.4% White, 31.7% Black and .07% Asian.

My Project

Making Calm spaces for kids within the classroom is a priority. So many students are in unstable living conditions and need school to be their safe place. By creating safe spaces for children to utilize like the treehouse swing we provide a calm space they need to develop self regulate and work on self-calming strategies. Social-Emotional learning post COVID-19 remote learning experiences is an area of great need. With a place that is in the classroom, students can continue to learn with their peers without having to leave the learning environment. This is an additional benefit to having calm spaces within the classroom environment.
