My Project

My students are kind and loving, but they come to school with a lot going on in their lives. They have social-emotional needs that impact their readiness to learn and participate in class.

I have found that having a calming space where students can take a few minutes to process their big emotions allows students to feel safe and ready to learn again.

The materials I have requested for this calm corner are items that I know help calm down my students when they are angry or sad. They love art and puzzles, which allows their mind to focus on something positive instead of what is bothering them.

They are still learning how to process their emotions and find coping skills, and this corner is the beginning of that process for them.
