This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Elementary school can be an exciting but sometimes overwhelming place for young learners. Many students experience big emotions throughout the school day—whether it's frustration, anxiety, or sadness—that can make it difficult to focus and learn. A calm corner in the counseling office, equipped with sensory items and comfortable seating, provides a safe space for students to take a break, regulate their emotions, and develop healthy coping skills. Sensory tools like fidget toys, stress balls, and weighted lap pads can help students manage stress, while cozy seating offers a comforting space where they can feel secure and supported.

By providing these calming supplies, we can create an environment where students feel empowered to recognize and manage their feelings in a positive way.

Research shows that sensory items and calming spaces help reduce anxiety, improve focus, and promote self-regulation—key skills for lifelong success. With your generous support, we can make this vision a reality and ensure that every child has access to a peaceful retreat where they can reset, recharge, and return to their classrooms ready to learn.
