Calm Bodies, Calm Minds

Help me give my students a comfy seating area to calm down, cool down, or just rest their active bodies. Bean bag chairs are perfect for little bodies to regroup and relax.

My Project

Kindergarteners often need help with self regulation. Their emotions are often a major factor in their learning. Many of my students are overwhelmed by the shift from play centered pre-kindergarten to primarily academic kindergarten.

We are often asking our youngest learners to do things we did not do in kindergarten and without giving them the emotional support they need.

Many adults today remember playing and napping in kindergarten or even half day kindergarten. In this day and age, kindergarten is full day. Kindergarteners are learning to read, write, add, and subtract.

These things can often frustrate little learners. Some of them enter kindergarten at four years old. There are so many things that are difficult and tricky for them. I would like to create a calm down area in the room where students can sit comfortably with a fun picture book and just relax. Often, they cannot even verbalize why they are not happy. A little break in the calm down zone can help them recenter and ask for help or be ready to move on to a task.
