Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a teacher to fifteen kindergarteners. They are a happy and energetic group. However, because of their age, they can be full of big emotions. When this happens I would like a calm-down area ready for them to use.

A calm-down area is essential in a kindergarten class.

It provides a safe, soothing corner where students can learn to identify their feelings, use words to communicate their feelings and practice ways to calm down.

The items in this project will help create our calm-down area. The bean bags provide a comfortable seating area that can be rearranged to accommodate two students. The lamps offer calming white noise and gentle lighting to the area which help to create a soothing environment. The magnetic blocks provide a way for students to calm down and create. Lastly, the books will help students practice yoga and breathing techniques that provide an outlet for their big emotions. This helps students learn and practice self-regulating skills.

Calm-down areas give students the space to safely be and explore their emotions in a calm, soothing, and inviting space.
