I am working to create a calm and mindful space in my classroom. My room is often a safe space for children who are struggling in their academic settings and it can be a place where kids excel where they cannot necessarily find success in educational classes.
Scholars can create comfortably, in clean seating areas, either at their desks or on comfortable seating cushions within our space.
The cushions will allow for scholars to sit on the floor - against the walls, or in the adjacent spaces to my room - and allow for comfort and mindfulness practice, along with artistic creative spaces. Scholars will be given mindful prompts at the start of each class - and able to journal about them prior to creating their artwork. This practice has been monumental for creating a safe space.
I have been teaching for 22 years and often provide many of these things out of my pocket but due to having a child at home battling cancer this year - I will be unable to spend that money out of pocket. I would love to be still able to have the ability to provide my amazing scholars with these options.
