My Project

In our classroom community the calm area is a place where kids can go to reset and acknowledge when they are having big feelings. Every child processes their emotions in a different way. Some kids need a warm hug, others need to keep their hands and minds busy on something other than their feelings.

I want our classroom calm area to be a place where the children feel safe and are able to process their emotions in a positive way.

Hugging a weighted stuffed animal can bring comfort and calm, sitting on a beanbag chair can let a child's body relax. Legos help students who need to keep their hands busy as they unwind. I also want to keep the area clean, which is tough to do in a class of 30, so a tiny vacuum to help keep the area neat and free of dust would help immensely. I want every child to feel safe and loved in our shared space.
