Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a wonderful group of 5th grade students who are highly motivated and have a true passion for learning. They are my inspiration as they push me to think outside of the box to develop learning experiences to meet their varying interests and diverse needs. My students represent a very mixed population both culturally and economically, and despite challenges, they always give their own personal best and push to succeed!

I teach at a Title I school where I am lucky enough to get to work with such dedicated and hardworking students.

I also get to partner with a group of supportive parents and equally supportive staff who share the common goal of creating a learning environment where all children will succeed!

My Project

My goal is to add new reading material to my classroom library. Not only do the books I requested such as Save Me A Seat and Wish cover themes on friendship, empathy, kindness, and perseverance, there are others that highlight the achievements of largely underrepresented groups. I am excited to be able to introduce books such as Ada Lovelace, Poet of Science: The First Computer Programmer and Stephen Curry: The Children's Book: The Boy Who Never Gave Up to my classroom library. I am also requesting Chart Sense for Writing: Over 70 Common Sense Charts with Tips and Strategies to Teach 3-8 Writing to extend what students are reading in the classroom to writing experiences.
