Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As we explore the "Clothes" unit in our classroom we want to experience it with connection to the real world. I want them to grasp the whole picture of how designers create clothing. We will be learning about the process of how the clothes we wear are made, clothes made in different cultures and countries, and how people can be designers, seamstresses and business owners all from making clothes. I have provided a sewing machine in my dramatic play center and I would like to have a different method on how clothes are created which is why I think this Cricut machine will be great!

We will be using the Cricut machine to make our own clothing designs that represents them, their creativity and their identity in this world!

We read he book"Daddy Dressed Me" by Michael Gardner it is a story about a dad who makes a dress for his daughter that matches her unique identity and supports her social emotional development. The students expressed how they would like to make their own clothes and this is what gave me the idea to do this. This unit will be so much fun, engaging and will teach my students all about multi-cultural diversity.

By implementing the Clothes Workshop in our dramatic play center, my students will begin to see themselves as clothes designers and seamstresses. We will use these materials to aide us in the process of becoming life-long learners. Plus in this technology literate world, any interaction with updated technology will increase their developmental skills as well as their desire to learn and use the new technology!
