This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students haven't forgotten the joy of looking at their handwritten work with pride and want to practice their handwriting as well. The Calligraphy Club for All program is an after school club that provides students with fun handwriting practice and the opportunity to learn a new form of being artistic. Students need adequate tools to build their foundational writing skills and progress all the way up to calligraphy and artistic lettering. Lined dry erase boards, clipboards, and lined chart paper emphasize the collaborative nature of art.

When students write it themselves, their insights are even more powerful.

These resources will give students the tools to appreciate the art of handwriting, foster their own creativity, and most importantly, give them the confidence they need to try new things.

Fine tip brush markers will allow students to explore their artistic fluidity with writing. The bound journals will be theirs to keep for their own thoughts and reflections, where they can directly input their calligraphy practice in a way that's meaningful to them. Students will build their calligraphy and lettering portfolios weekly and display them proudly as they learn from thorough guide books such as Print Handwriting for Teens, Cursive with Jokes and Riddles, and especially the Complete Book of Calligraphy and Lettering.

The goal of Calligraphy Club for All is to get them back to making with their own hands instead of just watching others do it expertly. Students need to feel empowered and inspired to write, and the aesthetic enjoyment of your own handwriting can't be understated. Let's bring the joy and individual expertise into writing again!
